Lions Clubs of Multiple District 36, Oregon and Northern California

We Serve

Lions of Oregon & Northern California are a part of an international network of 1.4 million men and women in 200 countries and geographic areas who work together to answer the needs that challenge communities around the world. Lions are best known for working to end preventable blindness, the giving of eyeglasses and hearing aids for the needy and local service projects.

Mission Statement of Lions Clubs International:

"To create and foster a spirit of understanding among all people for humanitarian needs by providing voluntary services through community involvement and international cooperation."

Club Growth

March is the beginning of Spring and set aside as ‘Membership Focus’ month.  First, let’s look inside our Clubs and see what our club members wants and needs are.  One way could be using of a membership survey, which I am sending out the first of March to my club Presidents and Secretaries, that can be used as a tool for making a better Club. This can be a non-intrusive way to get members ideas without them identifying themselves. Hopefully we can identify what projects are working and those that are not, and new projects and activities that can be implemented.  Second, we as clubs need to keep our members feeling good with our meetings, and keep them interesting, entertaining, and members wanting to come back. There is an on-line training session for Presidents, and is available to all that covers these points and more, it’s worth reviewing.

We as Lions make a special effort to go out into the community and approach individuals to check out our Clubs and see what we do.  In the community, you can see city and county leaders, utility managers, bank managers, school principals, media organization and others.  Explain what Lions do and ASK if they have someone that could represent their organization. Sometime the organization will even pay the membership fees, again just ASK! When out recruiting it may help for 2-3 members working together.

Convention time is in full swing with District R having a successful Convention in Corvallis in February. I enjoyed hearing their speaker ID Anthony Paradiso also using my “BEE a Lions and BEE kind” in his talk. Our own District E convention is coming up on March 20-21 in Central Point.  District O the following weekend on the 29th in Milwaukie. District G on the following weekend, April 4-5th in Hood River. A busy time for convention goers, and a FANTASTIC time to renew old friendships. You always learn something at conventions.

Will you not help me hasten the day when there shall be no preventable blindness; no little deaf, blind child untaught; no blind man or woman unaided? I appeal to you Lions, you who have your sight, your hearing, you who are strong and brave and kind. Will you not constitute yourselves Knights of the Blind in this crusade against darkness?
