Milestones Reached by Fellow Lions

Hello Lions of MD 36G …. Again, this year I write about milestones reached by fellow Lions in District 36G. Chevron Awards have been sent out to the District Governor's to hand out and recognize each and every one of you great Lions!

We have a total of 81 recipients receiving Chevron awards this year representing 20 clubs in the District. These awards range from 10 years to 50-year Charter members.  That is a lot of dedication to our communities across 36G. A mere thank you seems like a mediocre way to show appreciation to all of you. We need to have a big celebration for the unselfish giving of time you have all given. One way we could get close to a celebration is through our annual convention. Each recipient this year will be recognized at our convention in Hood River and I sincerely hope you all make an effort to attend. I would like to recognize here, those with 40 years or more of service…. 40 years - Tony White, Hood River, John C. Taylor - Pendleton, and Jim Broehl and Richard A. Miller - The Dalles. 45 years - George Sahlberg - Burns, Rev. John R. Nesbitt - The Dalles, David Nevin - Hermiston and Richard A. Smith - Three Sisters.

50 years of service … James Tomlinson - Baker City and Ralph Patterson - Union. Super Congratulations to all of you and all of our other members who will be receiving 10, 15, 20-, 25-, 30- and 35-years awards!!

Just around two months away and we will assemble for our convention, April 4th and 5th, 2025 and then the district convention culminating in Pendleton, Oregon for the MD36 Convention in May. This will be the 101st MD36 Convention and we are proud to host all of you from the Multi District here in Eastern Oregon!

Along with my District Governor goals I am the secretary for the Burns club. I always include a quote from Helen Keller at the end of our meeting minutes. I really find this appropriate as we celebrate the 100-year commitment the Lions made to her.

I feel this is also an appropriate place to quote her and will close all of my articles with a quote from her through June here in the Oregon Lion magazine. Here is one reflecting on the New Year we have begun …

“Resolve to keep happy, and your joy and you shall form an invincible host against difficulties.”                                                                                                - Helen Keller

Pete Runnels - District Governor 36G

‘Be Instrumental in Service’

Will you not help me hasten the day when there shall be no preventable blindness; no little deaf, blind child untaught; no blind man or woman unaided? I appeal to you Lions, you who have your sight, your hearing, you who are strong and brave and kind. Will you not constitute yourselves Knights of the Blind in this crusade against darkness?
— Helen Keller's Speech at 1925 International Convention Cedar Point, Ohio, USA June 30, 1925
