Lions Clubs of Multiple District 36, Oregon and Northern California

We Serve

Lions of Oregon & Northern California are a part of an international network of 1.4 million men and women in 200 countries and geographic areas who work together to answer the needs that challenge communities around the world. Lions are best known for working to end preventable blindness, the giving of eyeglasses and hearing aids for the needy and local service projects.

Mission Statement of Lions Clubs International:

"To create and foster a spirit of understanding among all people for humanitarian needs by providing voluntary services through community involvement and international cooperation."

We do it because WE CARE

As a new year of Lionism settles in, many clubs have varied awards ceremonies or informal gatherings such as BBQs, banquets, dinners, etc. It is a fun and rewarding time to look back at our accomplishments from the past year and honor those in our clubs who took an office or led an event that their club holds in their communities.  Our events are special and unique to each community for various reasons and go back a few years or many decades in some cases. We don’t want to let our communities down or disappoint younger kids growing up and beginning to experience these fun times. Yes, it’s fun for the public and work for us Lions. We put in many long hours during some of these events following many planning and coordinating meetings. We do it because WE CARE, we understand the meaning of ‘community’ and we enjoy the smiles and fun it brings to many generations … past, current and future.

Is your club in danger of no longer being able to carry on these events or functions because it is falling on just a few of the active or able Lions in your club? Many of our clubs have aging members who can no longer help like they used to. And I know they feel bad when a request goes out for help needed at this or that event. Remember, they have served for many years and earned the rest. They should have no feeling of guilt when they can't answer the call to serve. I don’t want any long time Lion feeling that way. If your club has that aura then there is no better time than now to go out and ask an individual if they would like to be a Lion. So many times, I have heard the following statement when the question is asked of a prospective Lion … Why are you not a Lion?  … the answer … Because I’ve never been asked!  Yes, it’s that simple, they are just waiting to be asked! Many future Lions are in our communities and they live next to you, work daily beside you, wait on you at your favorite grocery store or restaurant or are just a casual acquaintance. There is no better time than starting today to ask the question of them … Why aren’t you a Lion? Every new member is another set of helping hands, another anchor to carrying on our traditions and another opportunity for a new idea!  Go get ‘em Lions! … ROAR!

‘Be Instrumental in Service’

Will you not help me hasten the day when there shall be no preventable blindness; no little deaf, blind child untaught; no blind man or woman unaided? I appeal to you Lions, you who have your sight, your hearing, you who are strong and brave and kind. Will you not constitute yourselves Knights of the Blind in this crusade against darkness?
